Top Christmas Gifts for 2006

UPDATE (12/13/2006): Check out my latest post including a list of suggestions for the Top 10 Christmas Gifts for 2006.

With the release of the Sony PlayStation 3 and Nintendo Wii (I still think that is a strange name) you have to be thinking these two gaming systems will top the Christmas lists of both children and big kids alike. Both have drawn same considerable press recently with outrageous prices being listed on eBay (one way even listed at $99,999,999 - a joke I'm sure!) as well as individuals being duped into bidding on original PS systems and even email addresses!

Other items that might feature well this year include the Microsoft Zune and Apple iPod along with movie related merchandise from the likes of Casino Royale and Happy Feet.

A previous top selling item that sparked several store fights back in 1996 has been re-released just in time for the 2006 spending season and that is Tickle Me Elmo, who is once again back on the store shelves repackaged as T.M.X. Elmo (to celebrate it's 10th anniversary).

There will as usual, I am sure, be the gifts of food items, clothing, CD's and DVD's along with jewelry and bath products in addition to the ever popular (but maybe not so thoughtful) gift certificate for such stores as Best Buy, Walmart, Sears, Lowes and Victoria's Secret to name but a few.

So what do I want for Christmas? Well, just a good time, good food and maybe something electronic being the geek that I am!

What am I giving this year? Well that would be telling and in such a public forum I'm certainly not going to be letting the cat out of the bag. You'll just have to wait and see!

The real question here is, have YOU thought about what you are giving this festive season? I'm sure everyone would agree you can never have enough ideas; so what are they, share away?

l input. I know you are all thinking about Christmas, else I wouldn't have had so many page reads. I've pretty much decided what I am buying this Christmas but I've got to keep it a secret because my fiancee reads the site!

Thanks for your Overview

Cute little general review, but leaves me still wondering what might be MY least-cost best choice. I have a hearing problem, but find my hearing aid incompatible with ordinary telephones -- so must guess as to much of the conversation and sometimes can't hear the other party at all. So, I need a unit that could substitute for a regular telephone or be used interchangably with Skype; it should have a mini-jack to accommodate an earpiece when necessary; and (for frosting on the cake) would do well to be Bluetooth-enabled so as to send and receive ordinary local and long-distance phone calls over the Bluetooth radio built into my Prius (as I do currently with my Motorola RAZR cell phone). Can someone narrow down the options? Also, given that I must pay a phone carrier to supply my DSL internet, can the cost of that connection be minimized by means of any of the Skype phones?

Any type of gadget is

Any type of gadget is popular of course. If it can make like easier, faster, more convenient or just let you have a little fun, it's a great gift. Popular for young and old, tiny RC helicopters.

Maybe because people are

Maybe because people are looking for a listing of the top christmas gifts for 2006 and not rambling speculation. No offense, its just that your post isn't in the standard top ten-twenty-thirty-etc list format that I'd bet alot of people want to see.

I don't! Can't stand them at

I don't! Can't stand them at all, having to rely on Apple software and the hub. I threw away my iPod shuffle and bought a $20 mp3 player on eBay; drag n drop and charged through a USB cable. Much better!

WOW!

It is astounding to see how much attention from Google this post has created. It is also equally amazing that nobody has contributed additional ideas!

2000 Page Reads!

Okay, so now we are approaching 2000 page reads and still no additional input. I know you are all thinking about Christmas, else I wouldn't have had so many page reads. I've pretty much decided what I am buying this Christmas but I've got to keep it a secret because my fiancee reads the site!
