Just Friends

Turned out to be just a little too close to home for me and Sarah when we went to see it! Super funny and a good time, kind of along the lines of Meet the Parents, where you cringe in empathy with the poor schmuck. The movie opens with Ryan Reynolds as your typical overweight loser (the kind everyone knew in high school) in love with his "best friend" Amy Smart, who sees him as more of a brother than a romantic interest. After a humiliating incident at a post-graduation party, Ryan flees his hometown in (where else?) New Jersey for the glitz and glamor of Los Angeles. Fast-forward a decade or so, and loser Ryan has shed quite a bit of weight (and any morals he may have had) and become a full-blown player... who gets stuck back in his hometown through a quirk of fate, where he's forced to confront his first love. Naturally, he decides to win her over, forever leaving the dreaded "friend zone" and hijinks promptly ensue.
I actually enjoyed this, and had more than one laugh out loud moment... I will say this is a movie that doesn't require the full theater experience, and can easily be enjoyed at home.
