Happy 3-Year Anniversary for www.Poscribes.com

Time flies when you are having fun, or so I am told!

It's hard to believe that it was 3-years ago today that I registered the domain name of www.poscribes.com. Happy Anniversary!

Those that know me, are familiar with the symbolism of the name but for those that aren't I will provide a quick recap.

In a previous life I was a member of Her Majesty's Royal Navy serving in the Writers Branch. The job itself covers mostly clerical type duties (to keep it short and non-specific!) Anyway, members of the Writers Branch are historically referred to as 'scribes' because of their role dating back to times when quill pens were used to scribe information into ledgers and journals. With me so far? Okay, good! Upon leaving the service I had reached the rank of Petty Officer or 'P O' which is the equivalent of a Chief Petty Officer in the U.S. Navy (comparison chart). So when you put them together you get 'p o' and 'scribes' or 'poscribes'.

During the past 3-years this site has transitioned from being solely for the purpose of sharing photos with friends and family back in the United Kingdom to being a sort of information aggregator/sounding board. In its most recent incarnation, we have news from here in the U.S. (CBS) along with news from the U.K. (Sky), feeds from Digg, Slashdot, Toms Hardware and BBC Sports (some of which can only be viewed as a member - it's FREE!), in addition movie reviews we post from time to time along with tech related material, travel anecdotes and our own unique perspective on the world today!

Over the past year I decided to try and capitalize on the traffic generated and offset some of the hosting costs that I have, such as electricity! Yes, I host the server myself and while it isn't a labor intensive arrangement to maintain it still requires 'juice' to make it all happen. To this end I added Google Adsense and Adbrite (the latter offering the most return so far but both falling far short of offsetting the current operating costs, nevertheless I remain optimistic this goal will be reached soon!).

All in all the site has grown quite well in the past 3-years and you can expect further additions and/or changes in the future that I hope will be to your liking.

In closing let me thank all of you who frequent this site, we are currently being viewed in 14-countries with more than 68,000 hits per month and with more than 7,800 visitors (average) and of course, without traffic I'd be talking to myself! LOL ;)
