DOOM

I just had to go see this one; I spent literally countless hours playing this game when I was younger. Entire summer vacations FLEW by in my pursuit of death to all demonic video game creations!
The film stars The Rock (as Sarge) and Karl Urban (as John Grimm aka Reaper) as members of the Rapid Response Tactical Squad - basically, a bunch of badass Marines that are suckers for major firepower (not that I blame them). They've been ripped away from their leave, and charged with going into a remote scientific research station on Mars that's been set to a level 5 quarantine, due to something going very, very wrong there. Blame it on genetic manipulation, and mankind's insatiable curiosity to figure out what makes us tick, and then pervert it into something (in this case) monstrous.
This film makes a lot more sense if you're already familiar with the game. I went with my mom and ended up having to explain various details to her. Still, we both really enjoyed the movie, especially the strategic use of suspense and decent visual effects. I loved when they finally switched over to first-person P.O.V. but had to wait til the end to see that.
I highly recommend that you see this in the theater; it just wouldn't be the same watching it at home... unless of course, you have a kickass home theater with something like a Bose surround sound system in place.

Yup

This is definitely one of the very few movies that I would have to see in an actual theatre. Hopefully I can come up with some plan to go there and do just that!

Definitely looking forward to seeing The Rock kick some more ass!!!
