Laminate Wood Flooring

Your rating: None

Not long ago, I ventured down the road of putting in laminate wood flooring. Having never undertaken such a task before and with limited prior home improvement experience I took on the challenge with suitable enthusiasm (and the desire to buy more tools - Any excuse you understand!)

Now, before beginning I had a number of decisions to make such as - what type (hardwood or laminate), manufacturer, color, etc. In fact I think it quite probably took me a good couple of months searching around and looking in various stores as well as online. Not to mention also the decision of to glue or nail or go the floating floor route (which is what I did).

I knew going into the project that I wanted something fairly easy to install, hard wearing and not too expensive. Three basic requirements, don't you think?

Now not everyone is into wood floors and I have to say I wasn't exactly sure before I started but once I got underway it was a real transformation to say the least. Ripping up the existing carpet and underlay proved to be a messy task as the underlay had begun to literally disintegrate. Fortunately I am not one to suffer from allergies but I can only imagine what kind of impact this could have had on someone who does. Of course, on the other side of things, once the project was complete I feel sure the house was cleaner with less airborne allergens and looking great!

A particular type of flooring that recently came to my attention is that of bamboo, such as offered by Bamboo Flooring Biz. Taking a look at their site I thought it was going to be made of bamboo canes, but not so! It looks just like any other kind of laminate or hard wood flooring and comes with the same routinely available 25-year warranty. I also found out a few interesting facts, such as; bamboo is a plentiful resource, it grows quickly (which means it is environmentally friendly), it's great looking as well as being easy to maintain; not to mention the same great qualities as other laminates in that it is hard wearing and unlike carpet that traps dirt and dust over time you can wipe it all up in an instant. What could be easier to clean!

There has to something said about the natural beauty offered by wood flooring.

Seeing the completed work really is a site to behold!

Dave
